About The Creatives Program
The Creatives Program is an immersive after school program that will provide students the opportunity to engage with community artists while developing work readiness, professional development, social-emotional growth, and artistic skill sets. The program is conducted in 3 phases which will extend over 2-3 school semesters, as well as a Summer session. Each phase will provide students with an arts-based experience that will allow students the opportunity to bring their ideas to life developing professional skill sets as well.
Phase 1
Students will engage in work readiness sessions and complete a formal job-training curriculum while learning about career pathways. These sessions will educate students with the knowledge needed to design, plan, budget, and propose their projects and ideas. Students will also have the opportunity to speak with community based artists and local creative professionals through one-on-one mentorship, allowing students to gain insight on various creative processes, develop long-lasting connections, and simply learn what it takes to become a creative professional.
Phase 2
Students will design and propose their self-directed creative projects. Students will develop projects that are focused on their areas of interest, as they put into practice the skills learned in Phase One. Examples of a SDCL project may include
- Producing and premiering a visual album or short film
- Publishing a novel or children’s book
- Designing a clothing line
- Producing a virtual fashion show or stage performance
- Launching a web-based creative business, and more!
To ensure further support and facilitation of students’ vision, students will receive individualized scholarship grants! Students will have the opportunity to present their completed projects in a TED Talk event at the conclusion of this phase.
Phase 3
In the final phase of the program, students will be placed in a paid work or internship experience. This component of the program will provide valuable work experience, a paycheck, and a resume-builder as students prepare for college and the workplace.
