POSITION: Violin Teaching Artist

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: 1099 Contractor

SUPERVISOR: Music Program Manager / Program Site Coordinator

SUPERVISEES: Teaching Artist Assistants

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm | October 2022 – May 2023

PAY RATE: $37.00 – $45.00/hr, Commensurate with experience. Paid as an independent contractor
(1099) and paid in equal installments throughout the term. Includes teaching, planning, meetings,
performances, etc.

LOCATION: Teaching Artists will work at one of three sites in Cleveland, Ohio. Specific sites will be identified during the interview process.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Violin Teaching Artist will be responsible for providing daily instruction in group settings to
beginner and intermediate students. The teaching artist will work closely with the Site Coordinator to plan and facilitate daily lessons that support and advance the goals of the program, and that help to encourage and inspire students on the path of musical and personal growth.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and teach daily classes that:
    • Establish routine and reinforce fundamental skills.
    • Encourage peer-teaching.
    • Maintain excellent classroom management.
    • Appropriately challenge the individual student and the group as a whole.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of students through in-class observations, and formal evaluations.
  • Set and maintain high standards for students’ behavior by enforcing the Rainey norms and student conduct policy.
  • Room preparation for daily sectional and full ensemble rehearsals.
  • Regularly communicate with the Site Coordinator and other teachers to determine daily, weekly, and monthly objectives.
  • Monitor snack time and assist with homework.

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree in Music Performance or Music Education
  • Proven record of outstanding artistry or musicianship
  • Strong knowledge of pedagogy and teaching methods
  • Experience working with children from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Ability to speak and read and write in Spanish a plus
