Rainey Summer Camp @ Pivot

Rainey Institute’s Musical Motion Picture (MMP) Summer Camp returns at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance, and Expression!

This interactive camp experience will engage 60 4th-8th graders in the creative art forms and technology involved in making musical motion pictures! Campers will work with teaching artists and film industry professionals to learn music composition and digital recording, acting-for-film and voiceover performance, cartooning and animation, choreography for musicals, cinematography and more! MMP will also feature exciting field trips to local cinematic attractions!

Breakfast, lunch, and snack will be provided daily for campers, along with a camp t-shirt! Camp will culminate with a finale presentation on Thursday, June 27th.

Class Size & Grouping

Campers will be grouped according to their grade with 4th-6th and 7th–8th graders grouped together.

Orientation

There is a mandatory orientation all parents must attend. This will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, May 29th @ 12:00 – 1:00 pm. Zoom link to be provided.

Transportation

Rainey Institute does not provide for transportation to / from camp.

Friday’s are the BEST! Each Friday, campers will enjoy awesome field trips or special activities.  We’re still making arrangements for some amazing Friday experiences! Once plans are final, we’ll post the details here.

Inside Out Day @ Ohio City and the Movies!

June 14, 2024

Campers will enjoy a fun-filled day, beginning with a walking-tour and sightseeing scavenger hunt in Ohio City, followed by a trip to the movies! The scavenger hunt clues will lead them to destinations including Cleveland’s famous West Side Market, Scrip Sign, and Mitchell’s Ice Cream, where they will take group selfies with their fellow campers and staff. Then they will enjoy Disney’s “Inside Out 2” on its opening day, at the AMC Theater in Brooklyn! Truly a day of fun, inside and out!

Michael Mage Magic Show

Michael Mage is a wildly entertaining comedic magician, whose mind-blowing show is guaranteed fun, joy, and excitement! Campers will enjoy Michael’s unique quirky personality, combined with his audience management skills, for an unforgettable show experience!

Campers will rotate through exploratory arts classes every morning.  Here is a sampling of the fun they will have.

SELL IT!COMMERCIAL ACTING & WRITING

Sell IT! Commercial Acting & Writing will offer campers an opportunity to write, act and direct their own commercials! Acting in front of a camera isn’t as easy as it looks, and filming a commercial comes with its own set of challenges. This class will provide students with the tools to create and deliver a commercial script that pulls audiences in, while working both in front of and behind the camera!

NARRATIVE & STORYBOARD PHOTOGRAPHY

Narrative & Storyboard Photography offers students storytelling skills around their own unique perspective through photography. Through this class students will learn to: Operate photographic equipment individually and collaboratively. Understand and apply the main elements of a photograph: subject, light, and composition while creating photos. Edit photo images with digital tools and softwares. Develop a photographic narrative around a concept the student feels connected to. Photograph subjects and inanimate objects to bring their story to life.

PIXEL SYMPHONY:Video Game Soundtrack

Pixel Symphony: Video Game Soundtrack allows young composers to embark on a thrilling journey into the heart of video game music composition. Using the powerful yet user-friendly Garageband, students will create their very own video game soundtrack. They’ll learn how to craft music for various game scenarios, including sound effects, selection screens, and much more. As they plan and imagine their video game, they’ll not only develop their musical talents but also gain valuable skills in storytelling and sound design.

MOVEMENT MANIA:Dance Beyond the Stage

Movement Mania: Dance Beyond the Stage is an innovative exploratory movement class designed to redefine campers’ perception of dance and movement. This dynamic course goes beyond traditional dance settings, guiding participants to discover choreography outside of the theater. Focused on the fundamental elements of dance, students will delve into cinematic movements, stage combat, stunts, and blocking tailored for the cinema. The curriculum also explores the dynamic teamwork aspect of sports, engaging students in wrestling intros and creating sports plays to achieve goals through strategic movement. Participants will learn how to captivate audiences both in person and on camera. Additionally, the class delves into the world of using dance for marketing, exploring Fashion Shows and commercials as platforms for showcasing products through dynamic movement. This transformative exploration of movement is not merely a dance class; it encourages campers to find choreography outside of the studio and embrace the art of creative expression.

Creative Arts Electives

“Mark Makers” Creative Arts Electives Afternoon Sessions

MUSIC: CINEMUSIC

CineMusic will engage students in an exciting and exploratory study of the music composed and featured in films. Students will be introduced to general music concepts and principles, key roles and artists involved in film scoring, the skills and processes used in creating music for cinematic works, and a variety of instruments, sounds, and musical compositions from some of the most successful film scores. In addition, students will develop fundamental music and audio production skills, while collaborating with campmates and teachers to compose, perform, and record original score elements of their own!

CineMusic Workshop is designed for 4th-8th grade students with an interest in learning and creating music, working together with a team, and engaging their musical and visual imagination! Prior musical training (i.e. playing an instrument, singing, etc.) is a plus, but is not required.

DRAMA: SUMMER SCREENS

Summer SCREENS teaches young performers the craft and skills of film acting and media production, preparing and equipping them for creative leadership in the 21st century! Daily sessions engage campers in screen acting, vocal performance, modeling, and cinematic storytelling through photography and videography. Learning and honing these skills enables them to harness the power of modern screens — from phone and tablet, to television and movie screens — to positively impact their culture and generation, promote positive images and messages, and develop a sense of their social responsibility as creative artists and influencers!

MOTION: LIGHTS! CAMERA! DANCE!

Embark on a thrilling journey into the realm of Dance and Choreography with our summer camp class, Motion Picture Musicals! Dive into the enchanting world of classic films and remix iconic dance moments that have captivated audiences for decades. Drawing inspiration from timeless masterpieces like “Footloose,” campers will unravel the secrets behind mesmerizing dance sequences that have left a mark on the silver screen.

In this exciting class, campers will unleash their inner choreographer, exploring the dynamic fusion of dance tailored for the camera. Get ready to take center stage, as participants bring stories to life through the sheer power of movement. Join us for a summer of fun, creativity, and the joy of reimagining signature dances from classic movies. Let the magic of Motion Picture Musicals transport you into a world where every step tells a story and the dance floor becomes a canvas for cinematic expression!

PICTURE: LEGO STOP-MOTION ANIMATION

Lego Stop-Motion Animation is an interactive exploration where students dig into stop-motion animation using lego bricks. Throughout this class, students will explore various stop-motion animation styles and become acquainted with the 12 principles of animation through hands-on activities. The pinnacle of the class is the creation of a special project: Lego Adventures Stop-Motion Animation, inspired by a heartfelt request from Disney Princess Cinderella. Students will infuse their animation with valuable lessons of kindness and respect, making for a meaningful final project as Rainey Kids.
