Rainey @ Pivot Center
Providing exploratory and mastery-based art opportunities to Cleveland’s west side communities
EXPANDING THE RAINEY LEGACY TO CLARK-FULTON
A Rainey in every neighborhood of Cleveland is a whisper, a dream, a seed planted when you visit Rainey Institute in Hough. When summer campers are gathered singing Rainey Songs; when students are picking up an instrument and learning to play with a mentor; and when students are sculpting, animating, stepping, pirouetting, and reciting lines of poetry, you imagine what this dream would mean if every child in Cleveland had access to it.
After more than 100 years in Hough, and with off-site programs located in schools and recreation centers throughout Cleveland, Rainey Institute is opening a second location on Cleveland’s west side in Clark-Fulton. Our new space at the Pivot Center for Art, Dance, and Expression will allow Rainey to expand our program offerings on the west side, form deeper partnerships with schools and the community, and enrich the lives of even more Cleveland youth through engagement and education in the visual and performing arts.
Anchored by existing tenants such as the Cleveland Museum of Art, Inlet Dance Theatre, and LatinUS Theatre Company, Rainey’s expansion to the Pivot Center fills the need for exploratory and mastery-based opportunities in music in this neighborhood, with our El Sistema orchestral program inaugurating the space this fall. Future programs will include pre-school arts, teen programs, and summer camps.

Ground Breaking ceremony – July 19, 2022
On a beautiful Tuesday morning in July, a small gathering consisting of Rainey staff, Board members, local government officials, a few donors, and some members of the media came together to witness the ceremonial “Ground Breaking” at the Pivot Center where Rainey Insitute will soon make it’s West Side home.
It was truly a special moment because those in attendance have already seen how Rainey Institute has changed the lives of so many children on Cleveland’s East Side. With one ceremonial gesture, Executive Director, Dr. Jennifer Harris ushered in not only a new era for Rainey, but a new era to enrich the lives of Cleveland’s West Side youth and future generations to come. Here are some images of that day.
future West Side Programs
A mastery-based orchestral program for youth which provides instruction from classically trained artists with a focus on deep learning and social-emotional development through 90 minutes of daily, leveled classes and sectionals.
Our newly redesigned teen program can find a home at the Pivot Center, private lessons and Saturday classes will commence, and summer offerings will get students working with many partners at the Pivot Center.
