2023-2024 Community Arts programming

Rainey Institute’s Saturday Community Arts (SCA) Program returns Saturday, October 21, 2023 with exciting arts opportunities for students from Pre-K through 12th grade! The program will include classes in Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, and Music, as well as STEM and digital arts. Classes are facilitated by excellent teaching artists and creative community partners. Pre-K – Kindergarten (Ages 4 – 6) | 10:00 – 11:35 am

SCA STARS welcomes Preschoolers and Kindergarteners to explore and shine here at Rainey, with exciting biweekly classes in visual arts and dance. Classes are age-appropriate for children aged 4-6, and parents/guardians are also encouraged to participate in the creative fun!

Rainey Explorers

1st-2nd Grade | 10:00 – 11:35 am

Rainey Explorers immerses 1st – 2nd grade students in an exciting and exploratory learning experience in the arts, with weekly classes in dance, drama, music, and visual arts. Each Saturday, these budding young artists engage in rotating performing and visual arts classes, led by Rainey’s professional teaching faculty. This program is both an age and developmentally-appropriate learning experience, as well as an exciting opportunity for creative fun, friendship-building, and an introduction to the Rainey family.

 

Rainey Clubs

3rd-8th Grade | 11:35 am – 1:05 pm

Drama Club

Rainey Drama Club provides young actors an ensemble-based experience, exploring various dimensions of dramatic theater. Club sessions engage and help each actor develop performance skills, including character development, storytelling, and public speaking, as well as introduction to the behind-the-scenes work of stage production, writing, producing and directing.

Dance Club

Rainey Dance Club provides young dancers an exciting, team-based opportunity to explore various styles of dance, work together on routines that expand their movement vocabulary, and have fun staying active on the weekends. Club sessions rotate between Concert Dance, Street Dance, or Cultural Dance, and incorporate Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, and African styles!

Visual Arts Club

Rainey Visual Arts Club provides young artists a hands-on opportunity for creative experimentation in a variety of art forms and media. Club sessions are designed to meet each artist at their individual skill level and help them develop skills in painting, sewing, paper sculpture-building, visual composition, and puppetry character design as they explore materials and techniques!

ENTREPREN-ARTS

This engaging 18-week program will guide students through a fun and exciting exploration of creative entrepreneurship! Starting a new business takes more than a good product — entrepreneurs must also find ways to design, market, and develop a strong company brand that excites customers!

Working with successful designer-entrepreneurs from Future Ink Graphics, students will learn how to do just that! The program will cover product design and visual branding, developing a business model, creating a company name, logo, t-shirt/merch, and a commercial, as well as having the opportunity to sell to real customers!

RYSE Ensemble

3rd – 12th grade | 10:00 am – 1:00 pm

RYSE (Rainey Youth for Symphonic-Social Elevation) unites 3rd – 12th grade student-musicians from throughout Greater Cleveland in a dynamic, popular music ensemble and immersive civic engagement experience!

Focusing on the roots and modern expressions of Jazz, Blues, Funk, Hip Hop, R&B, and other popular music styles, RYSE provides a unique artistic experience, encouraging young musicians to engage the creativity of improvisation and playing by ear, while also providing formal training, private lessons, and professionally coached rehearsals.

RYSE’s intensive and relevant music education is combined with exciting community performances as well as youth-centered civic engagement activities. This combination creates a truly impactful opportunity for young artists to connect with each other and their community, grow as musicians and leaders, and affect positive change through the power of unity and music!
